At Boot & Shoe Service, whenever we can, about 98% of the time, we buy only locally grown, organic, seasonal meat and produce. We buy from small farmers and ranchers we know, love and trust, people we eat with, drink with, and share our lives with. Everyday we change the menu to reflect the offerings of these remarkable food purveyors in their freshest most beautiful form. Our menu changes daily and always contains items that are gluten free, vegetarian or vegan. We are respectful of your dietary needs and restrictions, so simply inform your server and we will work with you and our chef to provide you with an amazing meal. As a note to our more gluten sensitive patrons, we do not have gluten-free pastas or pizza dough. We maintain strict and thorough food-handling and cleaning standards, but flour is present in our open kitchen. Our Café is open Tuesday-Friday, 7am-2pm and Saturday & Sunday. We serve a variety of pastries, granola, porridge, a frittata (ingredients change daily) until those items are sold out. We also serve coffee & espresso drinks, a selection of teas & juice. Charlie Hallowell was raised in suburban Connecticut on a modest diet of TV dinners and Chef Boyardee. After attending Northfield Mt. Hermon high school he left the country to seek his fortunes in the East. Upon return he met and fell in love with the mother of his two children in Berkeley, California. Through some completely unexplainable, miraculous twist of fate he found himself working in the kitchen at Chez Panisse. For the first time in his life he felt completely engaged and enlivened by his job, and the intellectual life that permeated the culture at Chez Panisse. After eight years of working in the kitchen, a degree in English literature, and almost a decade in the Bay Area, Charlie felt it was time to try a project of his own. Food is served on the patio during dinner service—weather permitting. The patio is open seating during both cafe & lunch services (during these services, you order at the front counter).
- We have live music from Joel Robinow on Tuesday nights from 7pm-9pm and music from the John Brothers Piano Company on Sunday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
